C4RD Artist In Residence

Centre for Recent Drawing presents In Residence: Julio Lopez Tornel. During August the artist will be in the main gallery of C4RD making work towards a final exhibition at the end of the month. Lopez Tornel is currently completing his Doctorate in Drawing from the University of Valencia, and is currently with C4RD courtesy of the Da Vinci scholarship programme.

Drawing in a War Zone : Xavier Pick

In late 2008 British soldiers about to leave for Iraq are sketched by war artist, Xavier Pick, who spent the next six weeks with them. He was given exclusive 24-hour access to the troops, allowing him to make hundreds of drawings and sketches. Listen to his experiences reported on a Radio 4 radio programme via iPlayer.

Agnes Martin: Between the Lines

A exhibition of Agnes Martin’s work is currently showing at Kettle’s Yard in Cambridge. The paintings in this exhibition are from her later years when bands of ethereal colour combined with the irregularities of hand-drawn grids. “The paintings are very far from perfect – completely removed in face – even as we ourselves are.”

What Will Be Seen

What Will Be Seen is an exhibition of drawings and other work by the Opus Group. Opus was initially formed in 2007 when the staff of the Foundation Art and Design course at Swansea Metropolitan University first exhibited together. This exhibition features work from artists Anthony Arrowsmith, Kath Clewett,Sharon Cooper,Mel Evans, Owen Griffiths, Bella Kerr, Sheree Murphy, Eilish O’Donohoe, Osi Rhys Osmond, Howard Riley, Terri Saunders,Tim Stokes and Sunny Todd.

Antarctic Time-Lapse Drawings

The artist Nicholas Hutcheson has created an ongoing series of short time-lapse drawings of the Antarctic landscape. In 2008 Nicholas spent 8 weeks as an artist in residence for the Austrailian Antarctic Divsion where he produced many drawings as he journeyed in and around the content. On his return he has created an online series of short animations to capture the sense of movement and time within the landscape which he now shares with DRN.

Gesture & Trace

In a collision between dance and drawing, the movements of a dancer are transformed into a series of lines drawn live by the Australian visual artist Rochelle Haley. ‘Gesture & Trace’ investigates drawing as an embodied and performance based activity. At the heart of this project is the reciprocity between the body, motion and line.

Xavier Pick: Solo Show

Mumford Fine Art presents ‘BEHIND THE LINES IN BASRA’ , the first solo exhibition exposing Xavier Pick’s personal experiences as a war artist in the Middle East – An artist’s portrayals and experiences of a campaign. The exhibtion opens in London with a two-day preview on 25th & 26th May and then continues until 3rd July.

20×20 magazine: Exhibition

This show brings together works by 11 international artists featured in the first three issues of the independent publication 20×20 magazine. Through photography, illustration and drawing the exhibition reflects the concepts and themes developed by the magazine. The exhibition opens on May 14th at Madame Lillie’s Gallery in London.

Touchstone

Between 2007 and 2009, a group of international artists have gathered in the Stonehenge landscape. Together they responded to the continuing archaeological excavations of the Stonehenge Riverside Project. In response to this project two artists showcase their work in an exhibition called ‘Touchstone: an encounter between art and archaeology’.
