A series of guerrilla pop-up drawing events through Islington in London are due to take place from 25th June to 4th July. The sessions will feature a range of activities in unusual spaces: from the top of a bus to a shopping arcade, and the programme will culminate in an event at Islington Museum as part of Cubitt People’s Republic: a major exhibition of work exploring community, democracy, creative freedom and Islington’s radical past.
A series of guerrilla pop-up drawing events
When: 25th June to 4th July 2010
Where: Around Islington London
As ownership of our public spaces is contested and our public movements increasingly monitored, photography in public spaces becomes problematic, and gatherings of large groups are subject to ‘anti-terror laws’, Cubitt Education is programming a series of informal and unofficial group drawing sessions, led by artists, to explore and reclaim the idea and image of public space. It’s a kind of life drawing: but outside of the art school and in the streets of Islington.
The sessions will cater for a range of participants: from children to the elderly.
The activities are FREE, although space is limited.
