The Big Draw 2010 Launch

The Campaign for Drawing launches its 10th Big Draw month-long season of drawing events for people of all ages and abilities. Over 1000 venues will use drawing, painting and a vast range of other media to connect visitors with museum and gallery collections, urban and rural spaces – and the wider community – in new and enjoyable ways.

THE BIG DRAW 2010

Big Draw Day is Saturday 9th October, but many other events will take place throughout October and early November.

This year’s theme is Make your Mark on the Future!

Possible subjects include changing places, architecture, habitats and habitation, fashion, climate change, ecology and re-cycling. If not of these appear, jut select your own.  All kinds of mark making (with meaning!) are valid from painting to animations.

Pick your theme and Win an Award

By documenting your event you could win one of thirteen Barbara Whatmore Charitable Trust Awards (worth up to £750 each). Additionally, the best organised event by young people receives the Arts Award Prize; the most engaging event in a gallery, museum or heritage site for 12-24 year olds wins the £1000 NADFAS Award. The Society of Architectural Illustration Award goes to the project which explors urban or rural buildings most creatively.Drawing is an equally powerful (but underused) tool for adult learning.  The Campaign for Drawing hopes to encourage more organisers to create Big Draw events for both young and older adults.  Thanks to the Campaign’s role in the October 2009 Learning Revolution Fesitval, you can read 16 new cast studies of successful drawing projects with adults, including ‘harder to reach’ groups and isolated older people. You will find them at: www.campaignfordrawing.net/power-drawing
