Drawing Symposium

The Burton Art Gallery and Museum in North Devon is hosting a Drawing Symposium called ‘Why is Drawing Important?’ Run in conjunction with Petroc School of Art, it explores why it is important to celebrate drawing. It coincides with the ‘Jerwood Drawing Prize 2009′ exhibition which is on display at the Burton Art Gallery from 4th March to the 9th April 2010.

Inspired by the Jerwood Drawing Prize 2009 exhibition, on display at the Burton from 4th March – 9th April 2010, and in conjunction with Petroc School of Art, this symposium brings together academics, scholars, artists, researchers and those with an interest and love of drawing, to discuss and debate why drawing is so important to the arts? Exploring drawing from a number of different angles including education, the Artist’s practice, curating or selling drawings and of course from the perspective of the Jerwood Prize itself the day will examine why it is important to celebrate drawing as a specialist discipline.
